Airy Thoughts - Swords
The second suit for discussion is Swords. This suit is usually presented as swords and its equivalent in the playing cards deck is the suite of Spades. Color associated with this suit is yellow and its element is Air. Something important to be noted is that there are many decks out there that give the Swords a fire association. There is no right answer for this for arguments both for and against associating fire with this suit are good ones and not easily dismissed. All that can be said is for you to look at your deck, think about the meanings and decide if it works for you. The Celtic Dragon Tarot is one such deck that makes this flip and it is Tir's primary deck of choice. She fought long and hard with her deck before coming to terms with which element to use. In the end, she decided to retain the original elemental association but do what feels right for you. We will discuss Fire and its properties when we come to Wands.

This suit can be seen in different decks represented as coins, pentacles, disks, etc. It's equivalent in a playing card deck is the suit of Diamonds. Colors associated with this suit are green and brown, earthly colors, as the element of this suit is Earth. The animal associated with Earth is the Bull, however, the Gnome is the elemental of earth. Astrological signs attributed to Pentacles are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn.
Pentacles are associated with the North, the feminine, the months December, January, and Februrary (making is season winter), and the time of day between midnight and 6am.
The general meanings of this suit are money, tangible possessions, material values, income, home, real estate and other things physical possessed. If occupation is a part of the question, these cards usually indicate merchants, bankers, business men, sales and trades people, mathemeticians, financial advisors and technicians.

Major vs. Minor
Hello again! Our first step along the tarot path will be to learn about how the deck is seperated into the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana. The Minor Arcana is further divided into suits but that will come in a few moments. Remember, I am discussing the traditional tarot deck, there are many other kinds of divinatory cards with different symbolism and meanings.
Twenty-Two cards make up the Major Arcana, all with a name along with their number, such as The Fool, The Magician and The Tower to name a few. When these cards come up in a reading they are pointing to, as their name implies, major points or spiritual issues. We will discuss later these cards and their significant meanings.

A little about us
Thought we'd take a moment and introduce ourselves, the ladies of ToC.
Phoenix:
Phoenix received her first Tarot deck, the Rider-Waite, from her father at the age of 13. She's been reading cards and collecting divining decks ever since. Although she owns many beautiful decks, she always returns to that ratty, yellowed Rider deck. In addition to the occult, Phoenix enjoys reading, making crafts, singing to her dog, Mary, (Mary's deaf, she doesn't mind), and belly dancing. Her day job is at a Fortune 500 company as a computer applications trainer.
Pid:
Pid is a 29 year old scorpio. She's avid movie watcher and thinks that she has paid for the vacation homes of the Best Buy and Regal Cinema CEO's. She calls herself an email queen and can't imagine communicating without it anymore! She currently works for a homeless outrach program as a team leader and finds that experience both rewarding and frustrating. She recently learned how to interpret her own tarot card readings by using the universal deck, but she has been intrigued by astrology and tarot cards all of her life.
Tir:
Tir is a 29 year old avid reader, writer and lover of all things dragon. She works in a lab for Johns Hopkins, where she is orchestrating the Zombie Apocalypse. She is currently working on a series (a fantasy/sci-fi/romance about dragon shifters) that she hopes to publish in the near future. She has been reading tarot cards since college and after a long search and much frustration she has found a deck that speaks to her, the Celtic Dragon Tarot.
Together:
Phoenix and Tir are both fire signs and rely on Pid's water nature to keep them in check at times. They are a silly and fun loving bunch, who hopes to spring board from this blog into a tarot business, so keep your eyes peeled.

Introductions aka What the heck is this tarot stuff anyway
Well hello out there ^.^ First off, let me introduce myself. You can call me Tir (my friends will introduce themselves later). We are your guides into the world of the Tarot. Just what is Tarot? Well some of you are probably going BOO HISS DEVIL!! If that's what you are thinking that then you are 100% wrong and if you don't have an open enough mind to read further to learn WHY you are wrong, then hit that little x button up in the corner and go bother someoneelse. Tarot cards are used as tool of divination, guidance and meditation.
I will be updating this blog, hopefully weekly with information about the tarot and different things associated with it. Its my hope that you will find things here to help you learn and appreciate tarot for what it can do for you. Each week I'll talk about a different card, my two friends will also throw in their two cents and sometimes mention books we have found helpful, websites with more helpful information and maybe discuss movies and their portrayal of the tarot. So if you are interested in learning more about tarot or interested in having your cards read then this is the place for you. That's about all for now, see you next week!
